8 min test instead of Ramp

Perfect answer to the FTP test debate.
Personally, whilst I know the Ramp gives me a little lower FTP, which makes Sweet Spot workouts relatively comfortable, it is spot on for VO2 max workouts. And it is very repeatable and doesn’t need to impact training around it, which the 20min test probably does for most.
The great thing with TR is you can tweak the % to adjust for this variable.

I just did the 8 min test and I have a little lower value than that…

Besides I drop my chain in the last 20sec of the first interval and my awful pacing in the second one, i manage to have pretty similar power values in both

but my result FTP was 317 instead of 322 (358 *0.9)

I know I’m splitting hairs and I will leave my FTP set at 317, but I just was hoping to see a +320… :frowning:

Welcome to test variablity… from whatever you are using to measure power… not to mention yourself. It’s impractical to expect closer matches with all the variation that exists when trying to test and compare like this.

Close counts hear and it seems you got decent and comparable results (which is not true for everyone when comparing Ramp to other FTP tests). It’s a fine validation.
