Highest-Ever VO2max

Saw this over at Outside: Oskar Svendsen and his outrageous VO2max readings… and why it’s not the be-all and end-all of your cycling proficiency…

It may not be but…

All race winners may not have the *highest VO2, but all race winners have high(er) VO2.

It may not be the be all end all, but it is hugely important and really one of the biggest pieces to the puzzle. It isn’t magic, and all things equal higher VO2 will prevail.

Shame the culture pushed him out of cycling.

Fascinating story.

Reading things like this, however, makes you appreciate all the tiny pieces of a puzzle that need to fall in to place to be a successful elite athlete. Genes are nothing without hard work, mental focus etc and vice versa
