How bad is it to ride with a wheel out of true?

I’m due to go on a group ride tomorrow and noticed my rear wheel is out of true. Am I taking a risk riding on it? Or should I skip the ride and get it sorted at a bike shop?

Or true it yourself. Shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes with a 2 dollar tool. That’s what I do.

I don’t have a spoke wrench :man_facepalming::man_facepalming::joy:

You’ve probably been riding with it like it is for a while so one more ride won’t hurt. However if the rim is rubbing on the brake blocks you may want to skip the ride.

Depending on the wheel, you may be able to adjust the spoke tension from the outside of the rim. Pop the tire, tube and rim tape off and you might be able to adjust from there.

It takes a while to get up the learning curve if you haven’t done it before. So first time is likely to be longer than the 5 mins it might take someone who’s done it before.

May be OK to ride the wheel as-is though. Just check the spoke tension an check there’s none that are loose.

Agreed, it’s not something that’s happened overnight. I have disc brakes so no issue there.

Thanks, I’ll take a look!
