Lessons for First Season of Cyclocross?

I am planning to “race” CX this fall and will be a cat 5. For those of you who race CX, what do you wish you had known going into that first season? I know it’s going to hurt, I have tried to train repeatable interval power (short power build, etc) but what else should I be thinking about or looking out for? Taking a ramp test tomorrow after most of summer training outside…will be interesting to see where things stand. We have a typical CX season where I live so will likely ease my way into rac…

1 month to prepare for cx racing

I’ve had a longish period off the bike recently which led to surgery and which has left me with only a month to prepare for a cx season! I’ve built up to 8 hrs a week in the last month - mainly cycling with a bit of running and have a ftp of 210. Anyone reccomend a training plan to follow? I’m not sure between sweet spot base and a build program. Thanks

What would a power-profile look like for a CX athlete?

With that kind of attitude I would just move on and give up on racing. You’re never going to be the fastest. If you upgrade from cat 4, your just going to be mid pack cat 3, after that you’ll just be back of the pack in cat 1/2. However, even the cat 1/2 guys are slow compared to the guys racing UCI. 4-6 weeks till CX – What are you doing?

CX is my jam, as I find it the most fun and doable with a busy family and work life. Kids play at parks, there’s beer after, and I live 60-90min from races every weekend early september - early december. Anyway, I raced XC MTBs April - mid June. Then took a bit of a break. I started a short power build the 1st week of July and am lifting weights 2 days per week (day 1 on Tuesday as a 2x/day, day 2 on Saturday afternoon).
