Holt Hill. Last workout of build phase.
First week of SSBHV1 is done! Loving it so far, huge change from the riding I did over the summer (~4 long unstructured road rides a week). I have to say that I have found the sweet spot/tempo intervals much more uncomfortable than I thought.
I didn’t really do Antelope and Hunter justice earlier in the week, but I felt great today in Wright Peak -2. I’ve been struggling I think keeping steady power, but for the middle interval set I felt really locked in. The last one I had to stop for a second to skip a song so maybe it doesn’t count.
Looking forward to a rest day tomorrow!
I am remembering why I don’t think a build between thanksgiving and Christmas is a good idea for me. Lots of stuff going on!
2nd day of having to cut a workout short, but got most of it in. This is my post whiskey run. For some reason my post-whiskey runs (at least during the winter) turn out pretty good. Temp was right around freezing and no wind, so the cold air was quite refreshing.
End of SSB 1 - week 6. Had to travel this week, so I only rode on Monday and today. Not the best opener ride before tomorrow’s ramp test… but I needed to get outside and enjoy the crisp air and a great group.
Antelope as well. And I was gassed, not enough breakfast and too late of a night before. The big hurt was doing McAdie yesterday.
I’ve been on a Pettit train all week. Sun came out so a buddy of mine and I rode 18 miles around some local rollers.
I did Tunemah yesterday. Not pleasant at all! I finally cracked a bit halfway through the last 12 minute session. Peddled easy for 10 seconds a couple of times and then finished it.
Completed Lamarck this morning, 4x10 minute at threshold felt fine and in control.
Mary Austin is up in two days and that’s that for the big workouts in SSBLV2.
Will be interesting to see if I can finally get my FTP above the illusive 300 mark.
Lion Rock this morning. Great session and those 4 minute efforts at 95% FTP keep you focused. Only complaint is the length of the recovery sections. 10 minutes is far too long. I was getting cold after 5 minutes.
Do you fuel for these type of rides in the morning or do you do them fasted?
I keep my workouts around one hour duration in the mornings but I think in the build phase I will have to go beyond that.
I don’t eat anything before any of my morning workouts. Not because I’m trying to do the session in a fasted state, more because I just don’t have an appetite.
Cup of tea and then straight on the trainer.
First bike after this cold - still something in my chest and sinuses to clear out.
VO2 max intervals of course!
Welcome back! I did Garfield - it seemed super easy and then I realised that I had messed up somehow and my FTP was set to 90% of what it actually is. Oh well. That’s one way to ease back into it.
Donner for me, recovering from a cold a couple of weeks ago. I felt awful during first interval, lot’s of coughing, but I feel much better now and ready for Gendarme tomorrow!
Mills this evening - it hurt but managed to complete at 100%
Struggled through this one today. I was wondering if I was going to be able to hit this number all 5 times.
One of the bad parts of a dumb trainer is not being able to pick your cadence… but then I have to get outside of my comfort zone… if 100-105 rpm puts me in my target power, I’m usually pretty good, but at this power target I have to go either > 105 or am right around < 100.
I think it might be an advantage you’re forced to work at different cadences to match target power. I’m good at 95 and feel much more comfortable at 105 than at 85, but during today’s Tunnabora I worked at 85-105, including 92% FTP at 85 rpm. This is one of several workouts on TR where I’ve worked a little bit slower than normal, and I think it is paying dividends in adaptation for me to work outside that higher cadence comfort zone.
