When do you usually see the most FTP gain?

SSB is where I noticed the biggest gains, the build plan allowed me to build the fitness based on the gains. My experience has taught me to do the plans in the order that @chad has engineered and trust the process. Unless you severely under tested go with the FTP the test revealed.

With that being said, would it be a bad idea to replace build with another round of SSB?

I think a lot of that specialization “icing” is about repeatability rather than raw increase in FTP. Whether that is being able to hold on to repeated surges in a crit, cover multiple attacks on a climb, or nail that last major hill in a century.
